There's a lot of information here about Ulearn, but the most important thing is that now you can try it out for yourself without waiting for anyone to get things set up for you. By simply entering the base URL followed by a word or abbreviation for your school, you can create your own school and begin using UlearnPlus right away. For example, by entering https://ulearn.tw/app/awesome (assuming "awesome" is not already taken) in your browser's address field and following the prompts on the page that appears, you will create the "awesome" school and begin using UlearnPlus immediately.

UlearnPlus is a school management and learning platform developed by owners of a small school in Taiwan according to their experience and needs in managing the school. It supports in-person and online classes, homework, recordings, quizzes, grades, attendance, communication with parents, and common office tasks. Deployed in 2020, it has been used in a production school environment ever since, being used daily by students, teachers, parents, office workers and administrators.

Features

Some of its noteworthy features include the following:

Data security: Schools owners can opt to have their school data stored in its own database. Highly secure options allow schools to have full control of their data.
Zoom integration for online classes and class recordings, allowing students to make-up missed classes at their convenience.
No need to cancel or reschedule classes during bad weather. Classes can be conducted online.
Class session pages with agendas, attendance, quizzes, homework, recordings, class material, and links to the work students need to complete.
Ability to review and grade student homework, both written and recorded.
New dashboards displayed at login, give users a clear view of information that matters most.
Student, guardian, teacher, office worker, administrator and owner accounts, with data and program functionality shown accordingly.
Billing, daycare, student import, school settings, and other administrative tools shaped around the real work of running a school.
Collections and audio transcription features for preparing lesson material and recording homework.

How It Works

The main idea is still simple. Each school has a short school URL. If you choose "happy", then your school will be known as the "happy" school; you and everyone associated with your school, then, will access your school with the web address https://ulearn.tw/app/happy.

The new signup process lets a school or private teacher choose a URL, enter a display name, and register the school's first Owner-Admin account. After that, the Owner-Admin can adjust school settings and invite or register other users, and import students, guardians, and teachers as needed. The school can then add courses, classes, homework, billing rules, and other school data as needed.

After going to your school's start page, you and all your school's users (unless you import their data through the Bulk Import feature) will need to register by clicking on the "Register" link in the upper, right area of your school page.
If you create the school through the new signup page, the first account is registered as the Owner-Admin for that school.
The school administrator can add students, guardians, teachers, courses, classes, homework, billing rules, and other school data as needed.

Data Security

Data security is fundamental to the design of UlearnPlus. A school must not be able to see another school's data. Users must not be able to see pages and information unrelated to their roles.

Standard Setup: Depending on how the school is created, the school may use a dedicated school database or a shared database designed to keep each school's records separated. In either setup, UlearnPlus uses the school's URL, the signed-in user, and the user's role to determine what data can be accessed.
Customer Provided Database: This setup option provides you with full control of your database. As the owner of your database, you can download and backup your database as often as you wish. Your database is hosted separately from UlearnPlus on your own server or on a leased server with an account that only you control. You provide us with a database connection string which allows the UlearnPlus program to access your database. If you host your own database and provide us with the connection string, your data protection is improved, but not invisible to the developer. Some trust is still needed.

Recent Changes

Some of the more important changes since January 2025 include the following:

Schools, individual teachers, and private teachers can now begin much more easily. A new school or teacher can choose a URL, create the first Owner-Admin account, and begin using UlearnPlus without waiting for us to manually set up an account.
Google Single Sign-On has been added. Users may still use a regular UlearnPlus password, but schools and teachers that prefer Google accounts now have that option.
New dashboards have been added for students and guardians. Students can see what needs attention, join online classes, view class information, and, when enabled, use a QR code for attendance check-in. Guardians can see information about their own children through their own accounts.
Homework and recording support has improved significantly. Teachers can review written and recorded homework, and audio analysis and transcription features help teachers understand student recordings more efficiently.
The Collections system has been added and is functional. Teachers can collect articles, stories, dialogs and other lesson material, record audio, have audio transcribed into text, and use both text and audio when assigning recording homework.
The school billing system is now functional and continues to be improved. It supports discounts, invoice lines, course fees, daycare fees, and links back to the students, guardians, courses and classes that produced those charges.
Bulk user import, better student and guardian filtering, improved role management, and many cleaner administrative pages have made the system more practical for schools with more than a few users.
UlearnPlus is now truly global, supporting schools and teachers around the world.

Our Promise to You

Honesty and integrity are central to everything about us. We understand how crucial students' names, contact information, class history, grades, billing information and parent relationships are to a small school, and we vow to not abuse your trust. Our understanding of the school market in Taiwan is part of the reason we've been careful about data separation, role-based access, and the practical ways schools actually use software.

Trial Period

While we are busy filling out product features, UlearnPlus will remain free to use. At some point, we'll have the financial part figured out, and at that time we'll publish our plan for trials and fees. It is our desire that UlearnPlus be easily affordable for everyone who finds our software useful.
